As the United States prepares for Pope Francis’s visit to the United States, we ask faith leaders across the country to stand with the Pope on immigrants’ rights by planning a 24-hour vigil. Pope Francis has been a very outspoken leader, emphasizing the need to welcome immigrants and refugees in our communities. Although he is not likely to suggest any specific legislation when speaking to the U.S. Congress during his visit to the United States, he will almost certainly appeal to the moral framework that so many faiths hold, of treating all immigrants and refugees with dignity, love, and respect. We encourage all IIC members to plan vigils around his visit and immigrants’ rights, supporting our immigrant brothers and sisters.
Please see this toolkit for resources on planning a vigil in your community around Pope Francis’ visit.
