ARIZONA FAITH COMMUNITY STATEMENT
AFFIRMING THE RIGHT TO VOTE &
SUPPORTING FAIR VOTING FOR ALL
“In a democracy suffrage is the most basic civil right, since its exercise is the chief
means whereby other rights may be safeguarded. To deny the right to vote where
one is legally entitled to do so, is to do violence to the principles of freedom and
equality.”
— Justice Levi S. Udall, quoting Indian law scholar Felix Cohen, in his decision granting Arizona
Native Americans the right to vote, July 15, 1948
We hereby affirm our support for the right of every eligible citizen to vote,
and our opposition to voter suppression in any form.
We commit to taking the following actions in support of voting:
 We will encourage members of our community to vote.
 We will encourage members of our community to serve as non-partisan
polling place monitors.
 If our facility is serving as a polling place, we will prominently post signs
outside the polling place affirming it to be a “FAIR VOTING ZONE” and
showing the non-partisan Election Protection Hotline numbers voters can
use to get help if they encounter difficulty voting.
